The Bible teaches that the Cross of Jesus Christ completely resolved the issue of forgiveness 2,000 years ago; this should not be shocking. But, it is shocking only because the vast majority of people don’t know this because religion keeps them focused on sin instead of righteousness. God is righteous. The Christian life is all about righteousness. God literally lives in the hearts of all born again believers and He is their power to live a life of righteousness.
Many centuries ago, after the Apostles had left the scene, religious people brought the Mosaic Law back into the picture. Jesus had already fulfilled the Law by His sinless life, thereby ending it. He replaced the Law with Himself; Jesus implemented the New Covenant. In fact, Jesus IS the New Covenant. Now, being declared righteous and living righteously come through Jesus Christ, not by human attempts to follow the Law.
Religion is obsessed with sin. The focus for both Catholics and Protestants is on sin: confessing sin, trying not to sin, feeling guilty about sin and promising God to never sin again. (The cults have varied positions on sin.)
Here is the shocking truth about sin: God never charged you with your sins because He never put you under the Mosaic Law. You probably never heard that preached in church before! Yet, the Bible clear teaches this.
Romans 4:15 because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression. (NIV) (Because God never placed the Gentiles under the Law.)
Romans 5:13 for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. (“Imputed” means that God does not charge your sins against you.)
This truth is completely foreign in most religious circles because the focus has always been on sin instead of righteousness and the indwelling life of Christ.
There is only one sin that was not forgiven and forgotten on the Cross of Jesus Christ. It is the sin of unbelief, the rejection of Jesus Christ as Savior. Whereas religion will tell you that the Holy Spirit convicts you of your sins, the Bible says …
John 16:8-9 (Jesus speaking) And He, when He (the Holy Spirit) comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;  concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;
The only sin that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of is the eternal and unforgivable sin of unbelief. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is “Good News” not “bad news followed by good news” as is often taught. When you turn from unbelief to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, God removes your old sinful spirit and replaces it with a brand new, clean heart filled with His Holy Spirit. You are made fully and forever righteous in your born again heart because the Righteous One lives in you; and, you possess eternal life because Eternal Life now dwells in your heart.
The focus of the Gospel is on righteousness, not sin.
